The Test Centre is officially the largest MOT testing station in the UK, operating a No Pass, No Fee policy providing its customers the peace of mind that they are going to get an honest test on their vehicle. Ian Wills opened The Test Centre over 20 years ago with one testing bay and have expanded over the years and now has 5 bays and a training centre.

The Challenge

Due to overwhelming demand for The Test Centres No Pass, No Fee MOT service they were essentially losing business as their outdated phone system was unable to cope with demand.  In addition to this the computers that run the MOT software were all connected by Wifi however the wifi infrastructure was not suitable for their requirements. The Test Centre were also preparing to launch The Test Centre Training and they knew that they needed to invest in their IT and telecom infrastructure.

World Tech Solution

World Tech visited the Deptford MOT station to perform a site survey, with a key view to understand more about the business and the challenges that they were looking to overcome. We created a solution which would help bring The Test Centre up to date with their technology, but help to future proof too.

The first solution that we proposed to The Test Centre was a hosted VoIP solution, this solution would not only allow them to manage and deal with the number of calls they were getting but also provide the resilience and future proofing that they required for future growth. This solution also met the needs of The Test Centre Training, as calls could be answered at either one of the business sites.

The second solution that we implemented was a mesh wifi network using a high end Ruckus network wifi access point. The Test Centre is located across a number of railway arches and wifi signal was an issue. The mesh wifi network allows multiple wifi access points to be installed enabling equipment cconnected via Wifi to be moved seamlessly around the MOT station without any drop in signal quality.

The customers experience is vital to The Test Centre and Ian is always looking for ways to improve this. They now recognise that there is no limit to what technology can do for their clients and their business. The next request was free wifi for their customers. Free wifi can be a security risk for your business if not implemented correctly, you need to ensure that the information on your business network is not accessible from the free wifi plus there are a number of legal issues with just opening up your wifi for anyone to use. Our solution was a managed, customised wifi portal which allows customers to register or login with Facebook and connect to The Test Centre wifi. The benefits of this system are that The Test Centre clients are happy, but ultimatly as a business evolves Ian can market new products and services to new and existing clients.

Results

The Test Centre have seen an increase in business since World Tech have made changes to their infrastructure, internet connectivity is now stable and the call management has meant calls are answered in a timely manor and during busy times calls are handle efficiently.  World Tech also offer ongoing support to The Test Centre.
